Critical Analysis

The title of the short story is "The Last Leaf" and the author is William Sydney Porter also known as O. Henry, it was not stated when the story was published. The story is about a girl who is sick and watches the leaves fall from the tree outside their window. She said that she will die at the same time as the last leaf has fallen from the tree. The author wants to tell the readers how the friend of the girls "the old man" who is also a painter wants the girl to get better and going back to painting again.

This the story is about 2 girls who are friends and are both artists, but the other one is sick and because of her illness she wanted to die. You should read this story because it can give you a lesson that we should value our lives because life is too beautiful to just throw it away. This story will make you feel sad because of the old man who wanted the girl to paint his greatest masterpiece died because he got ill. The girls got the information about the old man's death from the doctor. This story will inspire us to live our lives and continue living for our dreams because people know that we all have our talents and we should try to pursue it in our life.

You should read this short story if you wanted to inspire yourself or someone to continue reaching for their dreams even though they experience a lot of hardships in life. This will make you feel mixed emotions because of the girl who lived but the old man died. But he left her a remembrance that would inspire the girl. The characters have shown individuality and showcased their own ideologies when it came to death, like how Old Behrman believes that wishing death upon oneself is simply foolish. Johnsy also shows how much she contrasts this idea by her fancies of finally leaving the material earth, mostly affected by the sickness it made her delusional and started imagining herself what the world would be like if she were dead. It i...
