The Last Leaf
By O. Henry
This story is
made by William Sydney Porter A.K.A, O. Henry, This story published in 1907.
This story takes place in Greenwich Village, a neighborhood in New York City.
This story is all about the two artist who share an apartment in the community
but soon invaded by a disease that kill everything. There are only four characters
in this story, Johnsy, Sue, the Doctor, and Mr. Behrman. This story starts when Johnsy and Sue, share
an apartments. And soon their apartment is invaded by a disease called
Pneumonia and Johnsy got that disease. Johnsy loses hope for her life and she
said that if the last leaf of the vine outside falls. Their Neighbor Mr.
Behrman heard about this and he helped Johnsy not to lose her hope.
My favorite part
is when Mr.Behrman did everything even though he will come to the point that he
will sacrifice his life in order to save Johnsy. Mr.Behrman. What Mr. Behrman
did is heroic because even if it will cost his life he saved Johnsy from dying
by painting the last leaf that fell during a vicious storm. I really like this
part of the story because Mr. Behrman is not only show a heroic move, but he
also showed that if you really want to help, if you really want to save a
persons life you will put everything to risk even your life.
What I like in
this story is the friendship of two woman, Sue did not leave Johnsy and she
also Helped Johnsy not to lose her hope. According to what I read, Leaf
symbolizes the life of the survivors
because of their courage or bravery to face what obstacles or problems that
they’re facing. This story is the first story who strucked me deep. What I like
in this story is every character symbolizes something, Johnsy, who is a normal
human that is vulnerable to everything and a person who is losing hope because
of something that is nearly impossible to get, Sue, who is a human who is always
on our side to help us, Mr. Behrman the one who sacrifice his life in order to
save other people from dying. This Story also shows the hospitality of us,
person.
