The Last Leaf
by O. Henry

The story "The Last Leaf" by O. Henry is an amazing and heart-warming story because it teaches us to be kind enough to others and, it inspires us to understand the importance of life and how it means to the people who love us.  The story is that even if we have to face bad things, we should always help our loved ones, and it's about loyalty, courage, hope, and the will to survive.
In the story, the central characters are the artists. Sue and Johnsy are two friends who live together to achieve as artists, but Johnsy fell ill with Pneumonia. Her condition became severe. The doctor advises Sue to keep her friend's heart filled with hope and longing for life if she wanted to keep her alive. Johnsy believes that when the last leaf of an ivy vine on the wall outside her window, falls. She will die.
There is also another artist and a neighbor of Sue and Johnsy, named Behrman who helps Johnsy, by painting the leaves on the wall in the middle of a cold night, he catches pneumonia and dies at the hospital. But Johnsy encouraged to continue to live with renewed hope and begins her recover.
Thus, Old Berman sacrifices his life to save Johnsy's life.
For me, I learned to judge people, not only by their appearance but by their actions, because, the action is the things that could make a difference, passion and personal sacrifice. The story is great for everyone to read because it gives us lessons that we can use for our everyday life. I recommended others, especially to the young adult to read and rate it as 8 out of 10. I enjoy reading this story, and it inspired to do good to others and be grateful to the ones we loved.

Critical Analysis: The Last Leaf by: O. Henry (Yap)

Khrissarah Charlize M. Yap 11-Onesta (HUMSS) The Last Leaf By: O. Henry “The Last Leaf” is a short story written by O. Henry, a story that depicts the morbidity of death and of the fancies that come with the idea of it. The story focuses on Johnsy, a starving artist who focuses on the idea of leaving this world by the means of blowing away like a leaf because of a strong gust of wind, which is further exemplified by the main character; willing herself to death, waiting for the final leaf to fall, so that she can finally go to eternal rest. The characters have shown individuality and showcased their own ideologies when it came to death, like how Old Behrman believes that wishing death upon oneself is simply foolish. Johnsy also shows how much she contrasts this idea by her fancies of finally leaving the material earth, mostly affected by the sickness it made her delusional and started imagining herself what the world would be like if she were dead. It i...
