The last leaf by O. Henry was a very inspiring story. After I readthe story, I realized that there is really a person in our lives that sacrifices for us. But some times we ignore them, we take them for granted. Sacrificing for others makes us feel that we really love the person. Behrman is a really good person because he really sacrificed, just to change the mindset of Johnsy. He painted a leaf so that Johnsy would have a will to live since Johnsy depend her life with the leaf. I am inspired with this story, it shows that sacrificing is really important when you love a person.

When you love a person, you will do everything and sacrifice everything just to make that person feel better. When Behrman said that he still did not have his masterpiece, I know that everyone of us has own masterpiece, sometimes we still have not discovered it yet. The love that Behrman chows to sue is really powerful, It may be indirect showing of love but it is powerful for other it is just a small effort but it has a very deep meaning. We should also learn how to value things big or small we still gave effort. We should motivate others to hold on and value things. Even though Behrman died, he left something that is worth valuing. I’m mixed emotions with this story. Thus, reading this short story I realized that sacrificing is really important even if it is hard so that i can show my love. I also learned that we should value all we have, others don’t have what we have and still they chose
to be contented. We should be thankful for the blessings we received and we should be thankful because we have what we need.

Critical Analysis: The Last Leaf by: O. Henry (Yap)

Khrissarah Charlize M. Yap 11-Onesta (HUMSS) The Last Leaf By: O. Henry “The Last Leaf” is a short story written by O. Henry, a story that depicts the morbidity of death and of the fancies that come with the idea of it. The story focuses on Johnsy, a starving artist who focuses on the idea of leaving this world by the means of blowing away like a leaf because of a strong gust of wind, which is further exemplified by the main character; willing herself to death, waiting for the final leaf to fall, so that she can finally go to eternal rest. The characters have shown individuality and showcased their own ideologies when it came to death, like how Old Behrman believes that wishing death upon oneself is simply foolish. Johnsy also shows how much she contrasts this idea by her fancies of finally leaving the material earth, mostly affected by the sickness it made her delusional and started imagining herself what the world would be like if she were dead. It i...

His literary piece has the themes of health— the sudden outbreak pneumonia, and sacrifice— the showcase of a selfless act made by Behrman and Sue’s willpower to save Johnsy. There are a lot of lessons a person could get from the story, I can say that it is truly effective and moving. Took place in a little district west of Washington Square...
