          The Last Leaf, by O. Henry ( 1862-1910 ) 

This story is about a young girl named Johnsy, she has pneumonia. She is laying on her bed waiting for the last leaf of the vine on the brick wall that she see through her window to fall. Johnsy is very negative about her health she said that if the last leaf of the vine falls, she will die. Mr. Behrman, is an old man painter who is just waiting the right opportunity to create his master piece. He daubs the last leaf on the wall after the real leaf falls. He is able to finish his masterpiece, a real one not because it is fabulous but it help Johnsy to have more hope to fight against her illness. Mr. Behrman catches pneumonia.

            This story has many plot twist. As the story moves, the reader like me does not expect the heroic act of Mr. Behrman. He sacrificed his life and makes a special appearance in the end of the how the sacrificial masterpiece. The Leaf is the masterpiece of Mr. Behrman, because he paints it with passion to save life. The courage and determination to make that painting is to help others prove that life is something to enjoy znd fight for. We need to enjoy our meaningful life and always be happy. Sue is the friend of Johnsy, she goes to the house of Johnsy to take care of her. The attitude of Sue is example of what real friend is. Helping others is best for me, because by simple things you can make them happy or help them to solve their problems in life.

The story was beautiful and I love it, the story shows how Sue loved her friend Johnsy that she could do everything for her friend (Johnsy) even though Johnsy was already loses her hope to live in this world. It seems so weird that Johnsy was waiting for the last leaf to fall and she will go also, but in the case of Johnsy it was not weird for she is depending her life to that leaf and may be that ivy vine is giving her happiness. There are times that other people finds us weird because of what we do or because of the things that can make us happy, but they do not know the real reason why it makes us happy or contented they will never knew for each one of us has his/her own unique personality. The Last Leaf, A Beautiful Masterpiece The Last Leaf by O. Henry was a very powerful and moving story. O. Henry, the pen name of famous William Sydney Porter, was a writer of short stories. As what he has said, "Write what you like; there is no other rule." He is best known for having astonishing endings, and we are yet to capture lessons from it. Pertinent to his story "The Last Leaf", he mixed emotions on the different characters as he portrayed his idea significantly. He openly showed ideas on love, friendship, and hope.  The story revolves around Johnsy and Sue, two young aspiring painters who share the same taste and interest in art.
